Man seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Newport News

A man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle near Newport News’ Port Warwick on Friday afternoon, according to police.

According to a release from the police department, officers responded to a call at 2:46 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue and Loftis Boulevard. Police say a driver struck a pedestrian, and the man was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene and was not injured.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police closed all southbound lanes on Jefferson Avenue and westbound lanes on City Center Boulevard for the investigation. By 7:40 p.m. on Friday, Newport News police said all lanes were reopened.
