The new United Supermarket location in southwest Wichita Falls has been delayed by supply chain problems, but a spokesman for the company said the new store should be opening in the spring.

Construction continues on a new United Supermarket at Kemp Boulevard and Southwest Parkway with an opening scheduled for spring.

United, based in Lubbock, is renovating the large building at Kemp Boulevard and Southwest Parkway that has been a supermarket under several names for nearly 50 years. The store opened as a Skaggs-Albertson in the 1970s, became Albertsons until 2012 when Albertsons acquired United Supermarkets and had to divest. The building was a Cash Saver store from 2014 until its bankruptcy in 2019.

"At times throughout this project, our progress has been slightly hindered by supply chain issues, something almost all construction projects have faced in recent years. That being said, we still look forward to meeting our goal of a spring grand opening," company spokesman Joey Marcades said.

He said the company plans a mass hiring event for the store in late February.

The new facility will employ about 200 full and part-time workers. The company has said the 54,000 square-foot building is being completely renovated. Along with groceries it will have a pharmacy and deli.

It will be the fourth United Supermarket in Wichita Falls, joining Market Street at Kell West and Fairway Boulevard and stores on Jacksboro Highway and Iowa Park Road.
