Popular Westchester Chef Arrested by New Rochelle Police for Drunk Driving —without a Drivers License

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 3, 2023) — Brian MacMenamin, 56, of New Rochelle, NY was arrested this past summer by New Rochelle Police and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated – 1st Offense.

MacMenamin has been the chef at MacMenamin’s Grill (New Rochelle, NY), Larchmont Avenue Oyster House (Larchmont, NY), Club Car (Mamaroneck, NY), Post Road Ale House (New Rochelle, NY), and Heathcoate Tavern (Scarsdale, NY) among others.

A New Rochelle Police Lieutenant observed MacMenamin, at about 2:30 in the morning on August 10, 2022. The well-known restauranteur was driving at a high rate of speed southbound on North Avenue in a Grey 4-Door BMW Series 535. The vehicle was registered to a 31-year-old man from Larchmont, NY.

Three New Rochelle police officers responded to the intersection of North Ave and Pelham Road where the Lieutenant had the vehicle stopped. MacMenamin had the BMW parked alongside a Chevy Equinox in an attempt to give back a credit card belonging to the operator.

MacMenamin, presented a New York State Non-Driver ID only. A DMV Inquiry revealed MacMenamin’s New York State Driver’s License was revoked on December 30, 2015.

After police officers asked MacMenamin, to step out of the BMW they noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and glassy bloodshot eyes. When asked if he had been drinking, MacMenamin stated, “yes. I had one drink.”

MacMenamin was asked if he would be willing to take a standardized field sobriety test, to which he consented. Macmenamin stated he had double hip surgery two and a half months ago and would be unable to perform the motor tests as required. MacMenamin was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and subsequently placed under arrest. The BMW was impounded.

At NRPD headquarters, MacMenamin twice refused to submit to a breath analysis test and was booked on Driving While Intoxicated — 1st and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator — 3rd.

MacMenamin has an appearance in New Rochelle City Court on Friday February 10th.
