Denver Broncos request former Vic Fangio disciple for defensive coordinator
After Sean Payton’s meeting with current defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero, yesterday, the Denver Broncos have requested to interview a pair of candidates for the defensive side of the ball.
On this date, one year ago, John Elway posted publicly on Facebook regarding the accusations Brian Flores made about the Denver Broncos. When interviewing for the Head Coach position that eventually was delegated to Vic Fangio, Flores claimed the brass of the Denver Broncos committee showed up “disheveled” and referred to his interview as a “sham.”
This certainly makes Flores getting an interview to potentially join the organization interesting, to say the least. Elway & Ellis obviously denied the allegations of discrimination. Both even went on to say that Flores interviewed well and that they enjoyed the interview.
Brian Flores is an incredible defensive mind. He would be an outstanding addition to an already strong staff. If Flores were to get a gig in Denver, it would certainly be to be the team’s defensive coordinator, which would domino down to Ejiro Evero no longer being employed by the Denver Broncos.
Evero is beloved by the Denver Broncos locker room and is a great defensive mind himself. From a coaching standpoint, and leadership standpoint, the Denver Broncos could not go wrong hiring either guy.
Another name was thrown into the interview process, Sean Desai. In 2022, Desai spent 2022 with the Seattle Seahawks after spending the previous nine with the Chicago Bears as a defensive quality control coach, secondary coach, and eventually their defensive coordinator.
With the Denver Broncos requesting to interview multiple candidates for the team’s defensive coordinator position while Ejiro Evero is still holding the position does not look great for his future as a Bronco. If Evero does get reprieved of his contract, he will have zero issues with finding employment elsewhere.
It may be best to just clean the house and the previous culture from Nathaniel Hackett’s regime.
What grabs my interest more than anything with the Brian Flores situation is how the ownership group is handling things. The Walton-Penner being willing to bring Flores to Denver tells me one thing, they just want to win.
They are here to give Sean Payton whatever he needs or wants, and willing to forget anything in the past if it means a better future. Hiring Flores who has an incredible track record, but has the baggage of attempting to previously sue the franchise is a move you make if you think it improves your team only.
Flores would have an immaculate defense with this roster, I have little to no doubt about that. There is aggression to this ownership in approving the on-field product of the Denver Broncos and I adore it.
Ignoring the past, thinking about building a super-staff, and surrounding the team with strong leaders and minds is exactly what the Denver Broncos need to get back on track.
