The Bristol, Virginia Police Department is reminding people to lock up their valuables and their vehicles.

This is after a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles at several apartment complexes in the city occurred Wednesday night.

News 5 was told by police that several items were taken from vehicles including laptops, phones and clothing.

Maj. Darryl Milligan, with the Bristol, Virginia Police Department offers several tips to viewers to keep their items safe.

"Always make sure your doors are locked, don't leave things of any value in sight because that will entice someone to break into your car," said Milligan. "Try to park at least under a lit area or where the light from your house will shine on it. We recommend video cameras, it helps us if you'd like to share the video with us, but it also lets you know if anybody is around your house."

Maj. Milligan also says that in relation to the thefts from vehicles Wednesday night, suspects have been developed and charges are pending at this time.
