A man is behind bars after an hours-long standoff prompted a shelter-in-place order in Fernley earlier this week.

Lakhvir Singh was arrested after barricading himself inside a home off Olive Branch Court south of Fernley High School.

Just before 1 p.m. on February 1, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man shooting a gun in the area with people nearby.

Singh went back inside a house in the area and barricaded himself inside. Hostage negotiations worked for about 7 hours to get Singh out. He finally came out when crews deployed tear gas into the house.

He was arrested and charged with multiple crimes including firing a gun where another person might be endangered, attempted home invasion, resisting a public officer and more.

The incident remains under investigation.
