The 31st Annual Gulf Coast Winegrowers Watson Field Day was held on February 3, 2023, at the Cat Spring Agricultural Society Hall in Texas. The event was hosted by the Gulf Coast Winegrowers Association (GCWA) and attracted grape growers and winemakers from across the state.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a full day of presentations, wine tastings, and networking opportunities. The event covered a range of topics, including the basics of vineyard establishment for prospective new winegrowers, GCWA website updates, the challenges of establishing American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) within the Gulf Coast, and the potential benefits of using biochar for soil improvement.

In addition to the presentations, the event included a blind wine tasting and a “bring your own wine” networking social. The cost of the event was $50 for GCWA members and $60 for non-members, which included lunch and a wine social. Registration was available on-site and accepted cash, checks, and credit cards. Non-members had the opportunity to join GCWA during the registration process.

Overall, the 31st Annual Gulf Coast Winegrowers Watson Field Day provided a valuable educational and networking opportunity for both experienced and prospective grape growers and winemakers. The event provided updates on the present and future of the Gulf Coast winegrowing region, as well as insight into the challenges and requirements of establishing AVAs and the potential benefits of using various techniques and products in winemaking.
