Friday is National Wear Red Day, raising awareness about heart disease.

For nearly 20 years, the Go Red for Women movement has been raising money and educating women about keeping their hearts in check, as heart disease has become the nation's No. 1 killer of women.

Strong Memorial Hospital stressed the message Friday of keeping up with your health with blood screenings and CPR demonstrations — but noted Wear Red Day is not just for women anymore.

"Historically, it was 'Wear Red for Women,' but now it's really 'Wear Red for Everybody,'" said Anna Lambert, director of cardiac care nursing at the University of Rochester Medical Center. "Everybody should be aware of heart disease, how to prevent heart disease, how to be heart healthy, how to exercise, take your medicine, know your blood pressure, keep your weight normal."
