Red Apple Elementary in Racine attempted to break the Guinness World Record for most cereal boxes falling like dominos.
Seven thousand, five hundred full boxes of cereal snaked around the entire school Friday morning, which was made possible by donations from families, community members and sponsors.
"It's been amazing," said Susanne Kelly-Johnson, a Red Apple Fourth Grade Teacher that helped organize the event. "Every day, students are bringing in 2, 10, 12 boxes. It was amazing to hear that we had carloads coming in and having kids go to the front door to help pick up and bring the cereal up to the classrooms."
According to Red Apple teachers, the official Guinness World Record is 6,391 boxes.
Students and staff feel confident they shattered that and are already preparing for competition.
"It feels crazy because if we make the world record, who's going to beat us after?" said Harper Landreman, a Red Apple student.
No one from Guinness was on hand for the record attempt on Friday, but the school did scan every single barcode on every single box of cereal to prove just how many were used.
While potentially breaking a world record is already great, this activity will have a domino effect of kindness across Racine. The 7,000 boxes of cereal will now be donated to local pantries.
"I think that is part of the heart of Red Apple and makes us that family," said Kelly-Johnson. "We know that there are people out there that really, really need our support, and they are going to be really appreciative of it."
