‘Thousands of nails’ spilled onto roadway after multi-vehicle crash in Harrison Twp.; 1 in custody

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — One person was taken into custody following a multi-vehicle crash in Harrison Township Friday.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a Harrison Twp. deputy attempted a traffic stop in the area of Lodell Avenue and Payne Avenue, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

“The vehicle fled from the traffic stop, at which point, the deputy disengaged his emergency equipment on his marked patrol vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect vehicle continued to flee northbound and travelled into the intersection of Needmore Road and Payne Avenue, ran a red light, and cause a multi-vehicle crash, the sheriff’s office said.

A person inside one of the vehicles involved suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and was later booked into the Montgomery County Jail for charges related and unrelated to the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

According to a social media post from Harrison Twp., a roofing truck was involved in the crash spilling thousands of nails onto the roadway.

The stretch of Needmore Road between Payne Avenue and I-75 was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
