On Friday, Feb. 3, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department reported that, on Thursday Feb. 2, at 1:45 p.m., Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested an armed man who was being served a search warrant.

According to the report, deputies went to 610 Beatle Dr. in Greensboro to execute the warrant. The only person inside – Vance Jeffrey Britt – refused to open the door.

Deputies attempted to speak with Britt but were unsuccessful, so the deputies serving the warrant attempted to enter the house.

They reported being alarmed at what they found inside: Britt was brandishing a firearm, something that resulted “in deputies discharging their duty weapons.”

The report states what followed, “Members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team responded to the scene as Mr. Britt barricaded himself inside of his residence. Mr. Britt continued to fire multiple rounds at Deputies but was subsequently arrested. Mr. Britt was transported to a local hospital for treatment as he sustained minor injuries.”

According to the report, his injuries weren’t a result of any shots fired during the encounter.

After Britt is discharged from the hospital, the department intends to serve him with “several warrants related to the aggravated assault on law enforcement officers.”

The Sheriff’s Department stated it will release more information on the incident once those warrants are served.

The SBI has declined to investigate.

Fortunately, no deputies were injured during the incident and no injuries were sustained by the deputies involved.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is being asked to contact Det. J. Allen with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office at 336-641-2799 or call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
