GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation following a fire at an apartment on Green Bay's east side.

Firefighters say they were called to an apartment building in the 2700 block of Humboldt Road around 12:30 p.m. They discovered the fire in a bedroom of one of the apartments, which they were able to put out in about 10 minutes. Seven other units sustained smoke damage.

A total of 10 people from the eight apartments were forced from their homes.

The American Red Cross says it is assisting those displaced by the fire.

Damage was estimated at $30,000.

The fire marshal's office continues to investigate what caused the fire.

Humboldt Road between Interstate 43 and Linden Drive was expected to be closed until around 2:15 p.m.
