The Red Sox have traded right-handed pitcher Franklin German to the White Sox for minor league righty Theo Denlinger.

Boston was able to find a trade partner after designating German for assignment Monday to make room on the 40-man roster for lefty Richard Bleier, who was acquired from the Marlins for Matt Barnes and cash.

The 26-year-old Denlinger was a 2021 seventh-round pick of the White Sox out of Bradley University. He posted a 4.47 ERA in 40 outings (48 ⅓ innings) between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham in 2022.

He has a 4.15 ERA in 56 minor league games.

The 25-year-old German posted a 2.72 ERA in 43 outings between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in 2022. He gave up eight runs in 4 innings with Boston.

Boston initially acquired German before the 2021 season from the Yankees with Adam Ottavino.
