Yakama man sentenced to 10 years for brandishing a firearm during a violent crime

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 30-year-old Yakama man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington announced Thursday.

According to court documents, James Skahan-Lowe assaulted a man in Yakima on Feb. 26, 2022.

During the assault, Skahan-Lowe pointed a rifle at the victim and told him to get on the ground. The victim refused and attempted to run away.

Court documents say Skahan-Lowe chased after him and began hitting him with the rifle.

The hearing for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence took place on Thursday, where Skahan-Lowe apologized to the victim and said that he is a good person but was filled with rage during that time in his life.

The judge sentenced Skahan-Lowe to 10 years in prison, followed by 5 years of court supervision.
