NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) launched a new unit on Thursday night dedicated to policing the downtown entertainment district.

The unit is comprised of 30 officers working 10 hour shifts from Thursday through Sunday every week. They will be tasked with understanding the unique needs of the district, including that of merchants, tourists, and residents.

MNPD Chief John Drake expect the unit to have a positive impact. "I think we're gonna see a dramatic change in some of the things we've seen downtown. Some of the issues and concerns that people bring up as problematic and I think it's gonna be good," Chief Drake stated.

Chief Drake added his goal is to work with all stakeholders to make downtown a great place to work, play, and invest.
