The Office of Arts and Culture and Code Compliance are looking for a muralist to decorate a roll-off container that will be displayed throughout the city.
The 22-foot-long, 7-foot-tall container is the canvas for the mural and will be moved around the city for community cleanup events.
Artists who are interested in this “murals on the move” project should submit a proposal by Feb. 20. The design, made with paint or a wrap, must cover the whole container. It should also have the logos of the Office of Arts and Culture, Community Arts and Code Compliance, as well as the mission statement: “Safeguarding and Supporting a Strong, Healthy CommUNITY.”
A description of the design as well as preliminary sketches should also be included in the proposal, which can be submitted online. For this project, the theme is Murals on the Move: Paint with Me.
The person who is selected by a panel will receive $6,000 to complete the mural and purchase supplies and materials.
They will also have to prepare a template on one of the 22-foot sides of the container that can be replicated by members of the public on individual canvases for a “paint with me” opportunity. During an event scheduled for April 15 at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, the artist will paint the container while community members paint their personal canvases. Those canvases will then be displayed at the North Oak Cliff Branch Library.
