EXPOSURE TO BONE CHILLING TEMPERATURES IS A CHALLENGING ENDEAVOR FOR MANY AND IT CAN BE A PUNISHING ORDEAL FOR FOLKS STANDING AND WAITING AT BUS STOPS. IS IT TOUGH OUT HERE IN THEPCOLD >> YES. I WISH IT WAS SUMMER RIGHT NOW BRO. LIKE, I CAN’T EVEN STAND THE COLD RIGHT NOW. I’M LIKE SO SHOCKED RIGHT NOW. >> SOMETIMES THE BUSES ARE SO FULL IN THE MORNING, YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR FOUR OR FIVE BUSES PASSING BY YOU GET ON TO GET TO SCHOOL. AND THE CITY WANTS TO MAKE SURE WARMING CENTERS PROVIDE RELIEF FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED THEM. SIX NEIGHBORHOODS HAVE DESIGNATED WARMING CENTER INCLUDING THE GREENFIELD HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING COMMUNITY CENTER AND THE SOUTH SIDE MARKET HOUSE . >> WE PROVIDE JUST A NICE WARM PLACE TO SIT FOR A WHILE. WE DO COFFEE AND TEA. IF THEY WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN SOME OF THE THINGS WE HAVE AT THE CENTER, OUR SENIORS LIKE TO PLAY GAMES, WE OFFER THAT TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO COME IN. THEY’RE LOCATED IN BEECVIEW , HOMEWOOD, BRIGHTON HEIGHTS, SHERADEN, GREENFIELD, AND SOUTH SIDE. >> A LOT OF OUR HOMELESS COMMUNITY LIKE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT SO THEY CAN GET OUT OF THE COLD FOR A WHILE, PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THEIR BILLS, AND THEIR HEAT IS OFF, AND THEY’LL COME IN, OR SOME PEOPLE WHO JUST DON’T LIKE TO BE ALONE AT HOME. SHELDON: THE WARMING CENTERS ARE SCHEDULED TO STAY OPEN UNTIL 7:00 TONIGHT BUT SOME ARE ABLE TO STAY OPEN BEYOND THAT HOUR DEPENDING ON THE HARSHNESS OF THE TEMPERATURE.
