Several school districts in northeast Missouri have switched to four-day school weeks over the past few years.

They did this in response to the need for teachers across the state.

Last year, while Governor Mike Parson (R-Mo.) made a stop in Kirksville, he committed to raising the base salary for teachers to $38,000 a year, up from $25,000 a year.

During the State of the State address last month, Gov. Parson talked about how this has benefited teachers around the state.

"A total of 356 Missouri school districts participated in this program and provided pay increases to more than 6,000 school teachers," Gov. Parson said.

In his speech, Gov. Parson also committed $233 million to school transportation needs.
