State officials originally set a Monday deadline to release licenses to existing medical marijuana facilities.

The green light has been given – dispensaries across the state of Missouri can begin selling recreational marijuana as soon as today as long as they've got a license.The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services announced Thursday that the state will be issuing licenses to existing medical dispensaries starting Friday instead of Monday, Feb. 6, as originally planned. Sales are not limited to Missouri residents. Anyone 21 or older can walk into a dispensary today, as long as that dispensary has received its license for recreational use, and buy up to three ounces of marijuana. Keep in mind sales are cash only because weed is still illegal at the federal level. And it's still illegal on the Kansas side of the state line. Officials also add that just because it's legal in the state doesn't mean there are no restrictions.Missouri workers can still be disciplined for marijuana use. One lawyer we spoke to said a medical marijuana card gives people more protection, but employers can still fire workers for using marijuana on the job or for being under the influence while working.
