NDUS board finalists released

By Doug Barrett Feb 3, 2023 | 8:14 AM

A total of seven people have applied for two openings on the North Dakota Board of Higher Education.

Dr. Mevan Wijetunga – a cardiologist with Altru – is hoping to become one of eight voting members on the board.

The terms of incumbents Tim Mihalick and Nick Hacker are ending June 30. Hacker is leaving the board after serving two terms. Mihalick is completing his first term and has applied to be reappointed.

The two openings both carry four-year terms that begin July 1. Board of Higher Education members may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.

A committee will review the applications later and suggest finalists to Gov. Doug Burgum, who will make the appointments.

Last month the deadline to apply was extended to increase the number of candidates.
