Airport news: Avelo airlines starts its new Delaware route at RSW

As of Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, travelers in Fort Myers now have the option of flying to Delaware nonstop as Avelo adds another route to its growing list of options.

Avelo Airlines started nonstop service to Wilmington, Delaware from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) on Friday (Feb. 3).

The new route was announced in October 2022.

On Oct. 22, Avelo Airlines announced it would open the airline’s fourth base at the Wilmington Airport (ILG) this month. The new base provides air service for the Delaware Valley, encompassing portions of four states, including Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania / Philadelphia, South Jersey and the northern Eastern Shore of Maryland.  

Avelo will initially serve four other nonstop Florida destinations from ILG: Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach.

Avelo is based in Houston.

This is the first time RSW will have nonstop flights to Wilmington.
