Arrests Made In 2021 Murder Of Mount Vernon 17-Year-Old

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A nearly two-year-long murder investigation has resulted in charges for two Mount Vernon men.

The pair has been charged in connection with the May 2021 murder of Anthony Boyd Jr on South 8th Avenue, the Mount Vernon Police Department announced Thursday evening.

On May 6, 2021, shortly before 11 a.m., Mount Vernon police were called to 34 South 8th Ave. for a report of shots fired with a victim wounded. At the scene, police found 17-year-old Anthony Boyd Jr, suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest. Boyd was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department’s Major Case Unit have been investigating the case to identify the suspects they believe are responsible for the murder. Investigators worked with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office to present the case to a Grand Jury and secure indictments for the two suspects.

Tyrese White, 20, of Mount Vernon, was charged with murder in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

Christopher Mills, 20, of Mount Vernon, was charged with murder in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

Both Mills and White were already in custody on unrelated charges at the time of the indictment. They have been arraigned in Westchester County Court and are awaiting trial on the charges.

"Thank you Mount Vernon Police Department Major Case Squad for Closing Another Homicide Case," Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard wrote on social media Thursday night. "Anthony Boyd 17 years old was murdered just around the corner from his home on May 6, 2021."
