Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department responded to a private residence in Northwest Austin after eight people were exposed to carbon monoxide late Thursday night.

ATCEMS said it happened just before 11 p.m.

EMS learned six adults and two children were exposed. One child and one adult suffered serious, potentially life-threatening symptoms.

The child and adult are currently being flown to University Hospital in San Antonio for specialized hyperbaric treatment.

A teenager was transported to Dell Children's Medical Center with potentially serious symptoms. The five remaining patients were evaluated and refused treatment.

ATCEMS officials said the victims were exposed after running their car inside a garage that was parted open a third of the way during a power outage.
