How to get around the Charles Anderson Bridge closure

How to get around the Charles Anderson Bridge closure
SHUTDOWN FOR REPAIRS? >> IT IS SO INCONVENIENT. IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT. WE USE THIS BRIDGE ALL THE TIME. HOW LONG IS GOING TO TAKE? >> I’M JUST TRYING TO GET TO CAMPUS. I HAVE A CLASS IN 15 MINUTES. MAJOR INCONVENIENCE. >> YOU HAVE TO FIND A NEW DETOUR. >> ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE LITTLE STREETS TO GET TO CAMPUS. >> AND INCONVENIENCE YES BUT AS THE CITY SEES IT, A NECESSARY ONE TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC SAFETY. SPOKESPERSON SAYS THE ASSESSMENT FOR REPAIRS AND COSTS IS UNDERWAY FOR THE CHARLES ANDERSON BRIDGE. ONE QUESTION THE CITY HAS NOT ANSWERED TODAY IS IF THERE ARE OTHER MAJOR BRIDGES IN SUCH POOR CONDITION THAT THEY ALSO FACE IMMINENT CLOSURE. HOWEVER THE CITY’S BRIDGE ASSESSMENT REPORT WAS RELEASED IN DECEMBER. IT LISTS THESE 32 BRIDGES IN POOR CONDITION OUT OF 147 BRIDGES. THESE ARE SOME OF THE LARGER BRIDGES ON THE LIST. BUT WE DO NOT KNOW IF THEY FACE IMMINENT CLOSURE LIKE THE CHARLES ANDERSON BRIDGE. SOME DRIVERS SAY THEY DON’T WANT TO SEE ANOTHER FERN HOLLOW BRIDGE DISASTER. SO THEY CAN TOLERATE A TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN FOR REPAIRS OF THE CHARLES ANDERSON BRIDGE. >> I THINK IT’S LONG OVERDUE. I’M GLAD THEY’RE DOING IT. >> DO YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT THIS BRIDGE? >> SORT OF. I GUESS FOR THE AGE. >> IT’S FOR THE BEST. >> YOU WOULD RATHER BE CAREFUL. >> YES. >> THE MAYOR ALSO ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THE CITY WOULD ATTEMPT TO EXPEDITE FUNDING THROUGH THE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM TO FACILITATE THE REPAIRS AND RENOVATION OF THE BRIDGES.
