BULLETIN: MPD Officer Critically Injured in Deadly East Memphis Shooting

DEVELOPING: A Memphis Police officer has been critically injured and another individual died in a shooting at the Poplar-White Station Public Library. An eyewitness told WREG they heard at least 5 shots.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will handle the investigation of the incident, District Attorney Steve Mulroy said. 

Memphis Police confirmed to KWAM that the officer is in extremely critical condition and was rushed to Regional One Hospital. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. There’s no word on what led to the shooting.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing library patrons running in terror from the library.

“Yesterday Al Sharpton called Memphis cops gangbangers. Just moments ago, a Memphis Police officer was shot and is in extremely critical condition,” Starnes said.
