WESTMORELAND — A Pottawatomie County judge has ruled a Wamego man will face trial for the September 2021 fentanyl overdose death of another Wamego man.

McKaine T. Farr, 21, Wamego, appeared for his preliminary hearing Wednesday in the Pottawatomie County District Court, where he was remanded to stand trial on distribution of a controlled substance causing death, according to county attorney Sherri Schuck.

The charge is a Level 1 person felony. Farr’s arraignment hearing is set for 9 a.m. March 17.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Wamego Police Department arrested Farr on Sept. 6 in relation to the fentanyl overdose death of Jayson Ebert, 21, Wamego. Ebert had been discovered dead on Sept. 5, 2021 from an apparent fentanyl overdose.

According to the KBI, Farr knowingly distributed counterfeit oxycodone tablets lace with fentanyl that caused Ebert’s death.
