Carlos Parks has been in reality for four years. He said it’s one of the tools that helped him get back on track after serving time for selling drugs at a young age.

"I got into real estate because I was working in mental health as a housing specialist, and I was part of a program that had to house individuals, who struggle with, from mental illness," Parks explained.

That was one of his first jobs after being released. He said he fell in love with getting people out of temporary places and into homes they own.

Real estate titan Joe L. Dudley, who mentored Parks, was front and center for his big day.

“Thanks, for just teaching me about business, changing my mindset, and empowering me to empower other people,” Parks told Dudley before the ribbon cutting at Versatile Real Estate Group LLC.

Parks says this is just one more way he helps the community. He also volunteers his time as a mentor and motivational speaker.

"I love to talk, so it is a good fit for me. When I came home, I felt I had to continue to tell my story to help people, so I started working with Dismas Charities, which is a halfway house for individuals coming home like myself," he said.

He hopes this next step in business will allow him to serve even more residents around the Triad.
