Rain showers, gusts of wind, flooding and cold weather warnings are in effect for Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Jackson area, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

Nicholas Price, a meteorologist at the NWS, said the Jackson area can expect 2-to-3 inches of rain with the possibility of a flash flood risk.

Rain showers are expected for the Jackson area and the Delta region as well as low temperatures in the low 30s.

"Rain showers are highly possible throughout the rest of the day," Price said. "Temperatures are going to remain in the lower 30s with a threat for flash flooding. The rain will continue throughout early Friday morning but will subside early afternoon."

Price said due to the constant rain, the entire region could see possible flooding.

As temperatures continue to drop and rain settles on the roads, some roads may become slippery and hard to maneuver.

Below are tips provided by the NWS on how to drive safely especially on bridges:

  • Bridges freeze first because there is no ground underneath, which means the entire structure can be surrounded by cold air;
  • Freezing isn't uniform: shaded parts can be icy while sunny parts aren't;
  • Slow down before the bridge, as changing speed on ice can be dangerous.
