Salvatore's Old Fashioned Pizzeria will expand southward, opening its first restaurant in Jacksonville, Florida this year.

The new location will be run by Fairport native and physician Ferdinand Formoso, who was chosen from multiple candidates due to his credentials. Salvatore “Soccer Sam” Fantauzzo, founder and CEO of the pizzeria, said Formoso is a perfectionist and that he knows the brand is in good hands.

In a statement, Formoso expressed gratitude for the opportunity to expand the restaurant and bring its food to Florida.

"I am honored beyond words that Sam and his team have accepted me into the Salvatore's family," he said.

The connection between Salvatore's and the Formoso family runs deep, as Formoso's aunt and uncle have been friends with Fantauzzo for many years.

The Jacksonville store is expected to open July 5 to commemorate the restaurant's 45th anniversary.
