New Orleans meets Hermosa
Spotlight: Artist Victoria White is bringing the panache of her hometown of New Orleans to the Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach for her first solo exhibit, “I Came to Live Out Loud.” Opening reception 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 with musical performances on a painted baby grand piano, an Elton John tribute, and a New Orleans brass band. White is a director of Indivisible Arts, an Hermosa Beach non-profit that provides art classes for young students. A portion of White’s art sales will go to the Da Vinci RISE Creative Wisdom Tools initiative. South Bay Landmark photo contest
“Why I love the South Bay” is the title of the second annual landmarks photography contest sponsored by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. Boundaries for the landmarks are El Segundo on the north; the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south; and Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood,Torrance, Lawndale, and Lomita on the east. Pacific brim, at Torrance Art
The Torrance Art Museum has a new exhibit: “Bridging the Pacific-LA Art of the Japanese Diaspora.” This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sister city program between Kashiwa, Japan and Torrance. To celebrate this milestone, the Torrance Art Museum is presenting an exhibition of the artistic talents of the Japanese American community based in Southern California. Kids Snack and Support
Cancer Support Community South Bay presents this free support group the first and third Thursday of each month for children ages 5-12 who have a family member with cancer. Facilitated by marriage family therapist Nadine Shoukry, the group offers children an opportunity to make friends and learn new skills for living with the stresses of having cancer in the family. Jimmy Beach Beach Poker Party
The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation will hold its annual Poker on the Beach from 3 to7 p.m. at the Historic Verge Beach House, 602 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica. The buy-in is $200. Poker on the Beach is a fundraiser for the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, which provides ocean therapy in the form of adaptive surfing for veterans, at-risk youths, special needs adults and frontline healthcare providers suffering from trauma-related PTSD, anxiety and depression.
