New Orleans meets Hermosa

Spotlight: Artist Victoria White is bringing the panache of her hometown of New Orleans to the Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach for her first solo exhibit, “I Came to Live Out Loud.” Opening reception 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 with musical performances on a painted baby grand piano, an Elton John tribute, and a New Orleans brass band. White is a director of Indivisible Arts, an Hermosa Beach non-profit that provides art classes for young students. A portion of White’s art sales will go to the Da Vinci RISE Creative Wisdom Tools initiative. South Bay Landmark photo contest

“Why I love the South Bay” is the title of the second annual landmarks photography contest sponsored by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. Boundaries for the landmarks are El Segundo on the north; the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south; and Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood,Torrance, Lawndale, and Lomita on the east. Acrylic rockers, LED guitars

An art exhibit of famous rockers in acrylic portraits, LED guitars and neon lights is on display at Cherry Co in Redondo Beach through Feb. 12. Pillow Talk femme fatale

Pacific brim, at Torrance Art

The Torrance Art Museum has a new exhibit: “Bridging the Pacific-LA Art of the Japanese Diaspora.” This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sister city program between Kashiwa, Japan and Torrance. To celebrate this milestone, the Torrance Art Museum is presenting an exhibition of the artistic talents of the Japanese American community based in Southern California. The exhibit runs from Jan. 28 through March 4 and will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, go to torranceartmuseum.com.

Kids Snack and Support 

Cancer Support Community South Bay presents this free support group the first and third Thursday of each month for children ages 5-12 who have a family member with cancer. Facilitated by marriage family therapist Nadine Shoukry, the group offers children an opportunity to make friends and learn new skills for living with the stresses of having cancer in the family. Square dance lessons

Learn to square dance. A beginners class starts on Feb. 2 and will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at Riviera Methodist Church, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd, Redondo Beach. Redondo E-Bike Rodeo

The E-Bike Rodeo will teach young e-bicyclists the rules of the road, riding skills, traffic safety laws and ordinances, classifications, helmet use and maintenance. 9 a.m. to noon at the South Bay Adult School, 3401 Inglewood Ave., Redondo Beach. All participants must have their own e-bike and helmet. Parents must be present.

Guided nature walk

George F Canyon Guided Nature Preserve Walk with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, 10:30 a.m. You will be guided by a trained naturalist to discover a variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat. Marie Curie’s whole life

Jimmy Beach Beach Poker Party

The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation will hold its annual Poker on the Beach from 3 to7 p.m. at the Historic Verge Beach House, 602 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica. The buy-in is $200. Poker on the Beach is a fundraiser for the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, which provides ocean therapy in the form of adaptive surfing for veterans, at-risk youths, special needs adults and frontline healthcare providers suffering from trauma-related PTSD, anxiety and depression. The city of Redondo Beach will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for

the new Redondo Beach Transit Center at 1521 Kingsdale Ave. at 2 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Public parking is located adjacent to the transit center at 1519 Kingsdale Ave. 

Benefit show

Beach Cities Community Forum on Fentanyl
