To mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, LSU Shreveport held a symposium on Jan. 20.

U.S. participation began in 1955 as an advisory mission that escalated and would end until Jan. 1973 when the cease-fire agreement went into effect.

LSUS faculty member Dr. Blake Dunnavent, offered a short summary of the conflict, followed by panelists Brig Gen (AF, Ret) Peyton Cole, Dr. Richard Campbell (US Army), Samuel Wayne Harrison (USAF), Dr. Randy Kichner (USMC), and Lt Col (AF, Ret) Jon Mickley who provided the audience their personal observations from the war.

“It is important for us to review the lessons we learned from the Vietnam Conflict, and to thank our veterans for their many sacrifices over the years," said Lt Gen (Ret) Robert Elder who moderated the event.
