SAN ANTONIO - It appears workers in Texas are the second least likely in the country to lose their jobs.

That's according to a new study looking at layoffs and discharges between 2019 and 2022.

Although the high inflation, rising interest rates, and lower consumer confidence give us plenty of reasons to be pessimistic about the state of the U.S. Economy. One good thing that the economy has continued to deliver is the labor market. But despite these conditions, the labor market has continued to deliver good news.

The unemployment rate in the U.S. sat at 3.5 percent in September and it was one of the lowest figures in more than half a century. But despite low unemployment, the economy has added jobs every month since January 2021.

The “Great Resignation” has also been great for workers as it pressured employers to raise wages and improve working conditions.

Between 2019 and 2022, layoff and discharge rates dropped across all industries. The states with the lowest rates, are Indiana, Texas, and Pennsylvania.
