IndyGo hosted a ribbon cutting Oct. 3 for its latest project, the “super stop,” at the intersection of Delaware and New York streets.
This $6.6 million dollar project combines multiple bus stops into one stop, which is intended to make the IndyGo bus experience smoother to navigate. The stop has a dedicated bus lane to keep the bus separate from regular traffic.
The CEO and president of IndyGo, Inez Evans, said safety is the company’s main priority. She said before, when buses were mixed with regular traffic cars would turn in front of buses, creating a safety hazard for everyone.
The boarding process for the buses is made quicker with new ticket vending machines that allow riders to purchase their bus tickets ahead of time, along with real-time screens that show arrival times for buses.
The bus stop also includes security cameras and extended covered seating for the safety of bus riders as they wait. The stop has near-level boarding to make it easier for people with mobility issues to get on the bus.
This is the first “super stop” in Indianapolis, and there are plans to add more.
