Alerus to test new metal detectors

By Doug Barrett Oct 6, 2022 | 8:37 AM

Fans attending tonight’s Chris Stapleton concert at the Alerus Center will help test one of the latest high tech gadgets designed to speed entrance into the building and increase security.

The so-called OPENGATE walk through metal detector allows patrons to pass through without having to empty purses and pockets of keys…coins…and other items. Staff will monitor the wait times of the OPENGATE against traditional walk through detectors.

The company that makes the system is loaning the device to the Alerus Center on a trial run. The cost is around $120,000 for seven units.

Tonight’s show begins at 7:00 p.m.
