PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Planned Parenthood’s political committee endorsed some candidates, including Gov. Dan McKee, in the November general election.

Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island Political Action Committee also endorsed Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, Attorney General Peter Neronha, candidate for Secretary of State Gregg Amore, and candidate for General Treasurer James Diossa.

“The five candidates being endorsed by [Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island Political Action Committee] for statewide office will protect our rights to take control of our own health care decisions and fight to expand access to abortion for all Rhode Islander,” said the committee, in a release.

McKee’s campaign said in a release Wednesday that “abortion rights are a defining issue for voters in this election, and under Governor McKee’s leadership, a woman’s right to choose will always be protected.”

The announcement is the first time that Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island Political Action Committee has made endorsements in the races for all five general offices in an election.
