The Wisconsin volleyball team’s mastery over Indiana continued Wednesday night.

Led by an impressive display by Danielle Hart on offense and defense and some strong hitting from Sarah Franklin, the Badgers scored a 3-0 victory over the Hoosiers in front of 1,433 at Wilkinson Hall in Bloomington, Ind.

The win, which came by a score of 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, raised seventh-ranked Wisconsin’s record to 10-3 overall with a 4-1 mark in the Big Ten. Three of those conference wins have come by sweep.

The victory over Indiana (9-8, 2-3) was Wisconsin’s 14th straight over the Hoosiers. That is UW's longest winning streak against a Big Ten team.

“I thought Sarah got stronger as the match went on and I thought Danielle was pretty much unstoppable,” UW coach Kelly Sheffield said during his post-match radio interview. “We probably could have gotten her the ball even a little bit more..”

Franklin, a sophomore outside hitter, finished with a team-high 13 kills, her fourth straight match with double digits in that category, and hit . 323. Hart, a senior middle blocker, tied season highs in kills (10) and blocks (eight) and hit .643.

Hart was at the heart of a strong showing at the net for Wisconsin, which finished with 13 blocks and hit .274.

Freshman libero Gulce Guctekin had 10 digs to extend her streak of double digits in that category to 11 consecutive matches. Sophomore middle blocker Anna Smrek returned to action after missing two matches due to a minor back injury. She played the final set and registered five digs.

The match was the first half of the Badgers' tour of the state of Indiana this week. Saturday they’ll travel to West Lafayette where they’ll face No. 5 Purdue, which improved to 5-0 in the Big Ten with a 3-2 victory over Iowa.

The Boilermakers swept Wisconsin last season.

“It’s an opportunity against a team we’re looking up (to in the standings) and try to get ourselves back into that conversation,” Sheffield said. “But it’s also been a while since we beat them. There’s opportunity there.”
