NEWBURGH — The comeback was almost complete.
Playing the Jasper Wildcats at John Lidy Field, the Knights came back after being down as much as 22 to tie the game and send it into overtime. Castle would strike first which forced Jasper sudden death forcing them to score to keep themselves alive.
After scoring a touchdown on their possession, the Wildcats had a decision to make. Should they go for th extra point for the tie or just win, or perhaps lose, the game right there with a two point conversion.
They opted for the latter and the risk paid off.
With the two point conversion, Jasper would win the game by the final score of 43-42.
Both schools now have an identical record of 4-3.
Castle would score first. On the Knights first play from scrimmage, Max McCool would run the ball for 57 yards after finding an opening on the left side.
Jasper would score on the very next drive when Carter Heisworth would run the ball from 37 yards. He would also score on the next drive after the Wildcats recovered a fumble on a Castle punt.

The next three touhdowns for the game would come from the Wildcats. Throw in a couple Aleyna Quinn field goald in the mix and Jasper would have a 35-13 lead midway through the third quarter.
That’s when the Knights made their comeback.
Castle coach Doug Hurt opted to use a platoon system at the quarterback position utilizing normal starter Caden Gordon along with Brayden Bishop who normally is a wide reciver. The strategy paid off as both were instrumental in the Knights comeback. It only took the Knights about 12 minutes to tie the score after being down the 22.
With 7:46 left in the third, Bishop would run the ball 46 yards for the score. A few minutes later, Gordon would find Weston Aigner from six yards on the score.
After the Wildcats turned the ball over on downs, the Knights would tie the score when Bishop would once again keep the ball on the quarterkeeper going 29 yards for the score. Castle would be successful on the two-point conversion.
Which takes us into the overtime. Per IHSAA rules, each team will start at the others 10 yard line. Castle would get the ball first and would score when McCool would run the ball in from 1 yard.
On the Wildcats drive, freshmen quarterback Max Bueitel would find Tyler Atkins from six yards. The two-point conversion would seal it.
Up next for Castle is the Central Bears. The Bears are currently 0-7.
