WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Students are back in class on Thursday after they were evacuated from a University of New Haven building following a bomb threat, according to a university official.
The threat was given over social media on Wednesday for Harugari Hall, according to a spokesperson. A search of the building went underway around 6 p.m. and was finished by about 9:30 p.m.
Harugari Hall consists of a classroom, a faculty space, and a restaurant.
Authorities said that no threat was found. So, students and staff are expected back in the building late Thursday morning.
Incidents like this are a problem that authorities have been dealing with since the beginning of the school year. Dozens of threats have been made against schools in Connecticut, ranging from shootings to bombs.
The Connecticut Intelligence Center, also known as CTIC, is a clearinghouse for information. Officials said they handle everything from terrorist threats to those made against schools.
“Open source monitoring is a big part of what we do, to try and anticipate and ensure the safety of all,” said CTIC Director Alvin D. Schwapp Jr.
University, local, state, and federal law enforcement still investigating the threat.
