City hosting cheer clinic with MSU cheerleaders

The Wichita Falls Recreation Department is hosting a cheer clinic and contest Sunday at Memorial Stadium, according to a media release.

The clinic and contest are open to first- through sixth-graders split into three different age divisions, according to the media release.

Registration begins at 1:15 p.m. and ends at 1:55 p.m. Sunday. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 4 p.m.

The Midwestern State University Cheerleading squad will be teaching cheers, chants, tumbling and more, according to the media release.

Teams can use what they have learned to participate in the contest for a chance to win first, second or third place. All participants will receive a ribbon upon registration.

The clinic and contest rules are as follows:

  • The clinic is for all individuals and teams.
  • The contest is for teams only.
  • Teams will be limited to two routines; cheers, chants, or a brief dance. They can use one of their own routines, but they must use one routine learned from the Clinic.
  • Teams will provide their own music on a cell phone for auxiliary input or a CD.
