Warwick man accused of causing multi-vehicle crash that hurt 4 in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Warwick man is accused of causing a multi-vehicle crash in Cranston that hurt four last month.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 at the intersection of Reservoir Avenue and Woodbridge Road.

Col. Michael Winquist said they arrested Thomas Krawczyk earlier this week and charged him with driving to endanger-resulting in personal injury. He was also cited with obedience to traffic control devices, no seat belt, and speeding.

Witnesses told police that a 2021 Grand Cherokee was traveling north on Reservoir Avenue at a high rate of speed, weaving lane to lane before going through a red light on Woodbridge Road.

The Grand Cherokee, driven by Krawczyk, hit a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup broadside that was traveling through a green light on Woodridge Road, crossing Reservoir Avenue, said the colonel.

Police said the impact of the crash caused the pickup to spin counterclockwise, hit the concreate median and before going airborne and landing on top of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was stopped at the red light on Reservoir Avenue.

The bed of the pickup was also dislodged because of the high-speed crash.

After obtaining a court-authorized search warrant to download data from Krawczyk’s Cherokee’s airbag control module, an investigator from Warwick’s traffic unit learned that the 58-year-old was traveling at 83 miles per hour.

The speed limit at the intersection is 35 miles per hour, said Winquist.

Krawczyk turned himself in at Third District Court in Warwick Tuesday, where he was arraigned and released on $5000 personal recognizance.
