Suspect in Car Theft Captured Near Myers Flat

The victim of the theft told us, “I’m an idiot. I started my car and ran into the house. I wasn’t in the house two minutes.” But, when she came out, her car was gone.

A neighbor told us. “She thought it was gone forever.”

The owner explained that not only did she immediately call law enforcement to report it stolen, but she called her boss. Her boss got on Humboldt Thieves and posted about the theft. From there another woman shared it to Humboldt Cars and Motorcycles.

“Then [because of the social media posts] some lady spotted it,” the owner told us. “It was parked in front of her house [on Elk Creek Road].” The woman suspect had apparently pulled over to rest, the owner told us.

Law enforcement went to locate the stolen vehicle but, the owner said they told her that the woman had already driven off. “They got behind her,” the owner told us. “My back tail light is missing so they recognized it right away.”

The owner explained that where they pulled the woman over wasn’t safe so they took the vehicle to the next offramp–which was Myers Flat and thus near the victim’s residence.

Officers are still on the scene with the suspect and, at this point, details are not yet available. But the victim told us that officers took the suspect, a Fortuna woman, to jail.
