TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Visitors may take note of a “big” piece of history now standing in the Vigo County Veterans Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
An anti-aircraft gun from the Navy was recently installed in the park. Commonly called an Ack Ack Gun, the installation will be dedicated through a ceremony this weekend.
According to Resident Agent and Treasurer of the Vigo County Veterans Memorial Park, Larry Dietz Sr. the group has been working for about 3 years to secure ownership of the weapon. He added that the effort is worthwhile because it’s all for the veterans.
“We’re just trying to represent the veterans. Make it look nice for them. Make the park look nice,” said Dietz.
Dietz said he hopes the park can soon add a military tank to the grounds.
The dedication ceremony for the navy gun will take place Saturday, October 7 starting at 11 a.m.
