Baby Greens, a salads and wraps drive-thru restaurant in North Austin, announced it will close permanently this Friday due to a lack of employees.

The first fast food salad restaurant is located at 10611 Research Boulevard, just before Braker Lane.

Founder and CEO Sharon Mays shared the news in a video posted to the Baby Greens Instagram account.

"Unfortunately we are going to be closing operations at Baby Greens at our 183 location," Mays says in the video. "Just to get right to the point, I no longer have enough employees to run this restaurant. Which I will tell you I have owned this restaurant for a very long time."

The drive-thru restaurant originally opened in January of 2004 in South Austin and then moved to North Austin in 2016.

Mays said in the last four to five months, the business has been operating off of her and two other employees, until recently.

"Last week, one of my guys told me he was moving out of Austin because it's just too expensive to live here which is heartbreaking," Mays added. "In the last two and a half years, I have lost more employees to the lack of affordable housing and living in our fair city than almost any other reason."

Baby Greens will continue to serve made-to-order salads and wraps until October 7, 2022.
