Madison police seized 11 malnourished dogs, including one with injuries consistent with dog fighting, during a traffic stop.An officer with the department's criminal interdiction unit stopped a van Tuesday on Interstate 55 in Madison. The officer searched the vehicle and said he found marijuana and the dogs in multiple crates throughout the van, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.All of the dogs were taken to a veterinarian for emergency care and treatment, Capt. Kevin Newman said in the release. The driver, 56-year-old Edward T. Bronaugh, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, transporting dogs for the purpose of dog fighting and animal cruelty. Bonaugh is being held at the Madison County Detention Center.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
