Widespread power outage from South Lake Tahoe to Meyers, and Kingsbury Grade

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The power has been restored, but a widespread outage caught many on the South Shore by surprise Wednesday morning.

Liberty Utilities lost its transmission from NV Energy, which caused over 23,000 Liberty customers to lose power for about two hours from South Lake Tahoe, to Meyers, and down to Woodfords and Markleville. At the same time, NV Energy customers at the lake also lost power.

Liberty Utilities is electronically connected to Nevada, stemming from the days of Sierra Pacific Power. When NV Energy purchased Sierra Pacific, they sold off the California portion to Liberty, but the connection to the Nevada power lines remains.

Liberty has solar fields in Nevada and transmits that power to the NV Energy lines.
