Police ID pedestrian killed in crash in south Springfield

Police say a pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in south Springfield.

Ronnie Highbear, 35, from South Dakota, was walking northbound across Republic Road near Fremont Avenue when he was hit by a 2019 Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound. Highbear was taken to the hospital where he later died, according to a news release from the Springfield Police Department.

Police say impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash. This was the 20th traffic fatality in Springfield this year.
