Man, 18, fatally shot outside Mira Mesa home; homicide detectives investigating

Shooting was reported about 9:30 a.m. on Deering Street north of Westmore Road

Homicide detectives are investigating the slaying of an 18-year-old man who was gunned down Wednesday morning in the street outside of his Mira Mesa home, San Diego police said.

The shooting was reported about 9:30 a.m. on Deering Street near Westmore Road, in a residential neighborhood northwest of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Camino Ruiz, San Diego police homicide Lt. Jud Campbell said.

Patrol officers arrived at the scene to find the victim lying in the street in front of his home with “at least one apparent gunshot wound,” Campbell said in a news release. The teen died at the scene.

Detectives have identified the victim but were withholding his name Wednesday afternoon, Campbell said. He said there was very little preliminary information about the circumstances of the shooting, including whether there was any type of interaction between the victim and the shooter or shooters.
