As residents all across the state of Florida continue to recover from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ian, parts of the city of Fort Myers could be without electricity for as much as a month.

That was the estimation reported by officials in Florida’s Lee County. Currently, over 130,000 customers remain without power.

The worst damage in the area exists in parts of Sanibel and Pine Islands.

Those are the places that could take “possibly a month” to get electricity back, according to a spokesperson for Lee County Electrical Cooperative.

Part of the reason is lack of access. A causeway must be repaired before repair crews can even reach the islands.

Overall, current estimates predict damages for the state could reach $47 billion before all is said and done.
