The NFL beat goes on for former Mountaineer Will Grier.

Grier is being promoted to active roster by the Cowboys, according to multiple reports including Pro Football Talk. This is being done so Grier can be Cooper Rush’s backup this Sunday against the Rams with Dak Prescott still not ready to return.

Grier was added to Dallas’ practice squad before the start of the season. Many were surprised Grier didn’t make the team at that time due to his strong play during the preseason, but it was revealed that he was dealing with a groin injury. Players are allowed to move up from the practice squad to the active roster and go back three times without going through waivers or being released.

Before being drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the 100th pick (3rd round) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Grier spent two seasons as WVU’s starting quarterback in 2017 and 2018 after transferring from Florida.

Grier threw for a total of 7,354 yards and 71 touchdowns in his two seasons in Morgantown.
