Man held on $1,000,000 bond after police find marijuana following 911 call in Northport

A man's bond was set at over $1,000,000 after marijuana was found inside a Northport home Saturday when police responded to a 911 call.

According to court records, the Northport Police Department responded to a residence on 24th Street after a woman called to report she was in fear for her life and a special needs child was locked inside the home with a man she'd recently met online.

Officers entered the home and secured the child. Officers reported being able to smell marijuana and said a large clear bag of what was later confirmed as marijuana was on the living room floor.

Police said there was 2,558 grams recovered in total as well as a digital scale with more marijuana on it.

Court documents said the marijuana was determined to have been placed in the home by Aaron Downs, of Illinois, and he could not provide a tax stamp.

Downs was charged with trafficking marijuana and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond total of $1,012,500.
